PeerStorage is a project that began in 2015, while I was working as an engineer at Mozilla.

Immersed every day in Internet issues inside a foundation whose mission was to keep the Web open and free, I came to see that most of the abuses of today’s Internet have one common centre: how data is stored.

At a time when the Internet has become a vast commercial space dominated by a handful of all-powerful services, it became clear to me that the only way for users to reclaim it is for them, together, to pool the unused capacity of each of their personal devices into a global collaborative storage space — a “commons” — on which a new generation of services could be built.
